MARK WEEKEND IN LLANDUDNO 2013

Once again the Mark Masons of the Garston and Liverpool Groups sponsored yet another successful West Lancs Mark Masons Weekend Away.  This took place on Friday 15th. to Sunday 17th. February 2013.  For the fourth year and by popular request the event took place again at the Chatsworth Hotel on the seafront at Llandudno.  The week end was honoured and supported by the R.W.Prov. Grand Master Bro Peter Connolly and his wife Lynne.

The after dinner entertainment on Friday evening was hosted by our genial compère, Tommy McLaughlin who presented a quiz which was won by Mandy Lyons and Co.  Then followed Karaoke and dancing through to midnight.

Saturday was Fancy Dress Night.  The photographs tell it all.  The fancy dress theme was in support of the main event of the evening, the stage comedy play entitled “The Twenties.”  The play performed by our Mark Thespians was received with much acclaim and much laughter.  It all ended with Tommy and Sarah Lowe singing for us.

There were three winners in the Fancy Dress:  Helen Cunningham-Chan portraying Amy Johnson, Vivian Crone dressed as a “Flapper” and Jack Parker as a chimney sweep of the day who was so realistic that he was approached for bookings to clean chimneys. As the photograph shows, they were dressed in beautifully home-made costumes.  Well done to all of them!

“Winners”
The Chatsworth Hotel as in previous years generously donated a weekend for two to be taken during the summer.  The draw was won by George Crawley and his wife.  (Incidentally, George won this two years ago.  Lightening can strike in the same place twice!)

The weekend concluded with Sunday lunch.  The weather as always was mild and sunny.  100 people attended and thanks are again due to the organisers W.Bros. Colin Svenson and Tom McLaughlin and to their wives Ann and Margaret respectively for their support.  Thanks are also due to our Thespians  namely (from left to right) Bernard Ashley, Tom McLaughlin, Colin Svenson, Barry Elman, Sarah Lowe,  Steve Lyon and Ann Svenson for a great performance  acting their parts in this year's comedy “The Twenties,”  which was written by Barry Elman and finally to our stage manager Wayne Cockrell.

From the proceeds of the event approximately £ 1600.00 will be used to provide much needed equipment to BNENC, Breckfield and North Everton Neighbourhood Council Ltd in Liverpool.   This is a voluntary organisation developed for the Liverpool Veterans Project for ex-servicemen providing help in finding employment and support for mental health sufferers among many other facilities.   (see web site:  www.liverpool.gov.uk  and follow links to veterans)  The presentation will be announced in due course together with a full report.

Next year the happy Mark Weekend will commence on Friday 21st. February 2014 again at the Chatsworth.  The enthusiastic dresser-uppers will receive information in due course.  The theme will be “Real Heroes and Heroines through the ages,” now that is food for thought.
